PLIDA Degrees – Società Dante Alighieri
PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) is a degree consisting of 4 levels. The exams are organized by the Società Dante Alighieri in collaboration with the University of Viterbo according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning and Teaching.
The exams for these degrees are held in two examination periods, May and November, and are recognized throughout the world. Detailed information about the process and content of the PLIDA Italian exams.

PLIDA Exam Description
The exam for each level has 4 sections, one for each language skill, while the time varies depending on the level:

Writing Comprehension

Speaking Production
Each module is worth 30 points, while at least 18/30 points are required in each module to obtain the diploma. If the candidate fails to pass all modules, under the new regulation he/she can keep at least one successful module and take the rest in the next examination, with the corresponding examination fees (determined by the number of modules re-examined). The total examination fees are approximately 80€ for level B1, 90€ for B2, 120€ for C1 and 140€ for C2. Results are available 2-2.5 months after the exams.
Speaking comprehension
lasts 50 minutes and consists of 4 parts, which include a total of 18 questions. In case a correct answer is given, it will be scored based on the degree of difficulty. That is, the score is not the same for all correct answers. The total maximum score is 30 and the base is 18.
Reading comprehension
Lasts 70 minutes and consists of 4 parts, which include a total of 15 questions. In case a correct answer is given, it will be graded based on the degree of difficulty. That is, the grade is not the same for all correct answers. The total maximum score is 30 and the base is 18. Wrong answers, those that have not been answered as well as those where additional answers have been given are graded with 0.
At the end of the exam, the candidate will have 10 minutes at his disposal to transfer the answers to the answer sheet.
Written production
Lasts 60 minutes and consists of two parts. In the first part, the examinee, based on some instructions and information given to him, must develop the topic in 160 to 200 words. In the second part, he must choose between two topics and develop it in 160 to 200 words.
Texts with less than 160 words are scored zero.
Oral production
Lasts approximately 15 minutes and consists of two parts.
First Part INTERAZIONE
- Duration: approximately 3-4 minutes (minimum 3 min. – maximum 4 min.) + 3 minutes preparation.
- Test format: Dialogue between two examinees or between examinee and examiner.
- Conduct of the procedure. The two interlocutors must agree to find a solution to an issue, each expressing their personal opinion on this issue, having at their disposal some evidence that will help them support their opinion.
Second Part Monologue
- Duration: approximately 3 minutes (minimum 3 min. – maximum 4 min.) + 3 minutes preparation.
- Test format: Monologue.
- Conducting the test. The candidate reads a text with information and prepares a monologue in which he/she reports what he/she has read, expresses his/her personal opinion by referring to a personal experience. The candidate has at his/her disposal a list of information that will help him/her to plan the monologue. At the end of the monologue, he/she answers the examiner's questions related to the topic.
The exam is divided into 4 sections. Each section is worth 30 points, while a minimum of 18/30 points are required in each section to obtain the degree. If the candidate fails to pass all sections, under the new regulations, he/she may retain at least one successful section and take the remaining sections at the next examination, with the corresponding examination fees (determined by the number of re-examined sections).
There is no negative rating.
There are no exercises related to grammatical phenomena. Knowledge of grammar and syntax is graded through reports.
Each candidate can choose the level at which they will compete, as well as participate in two levels during the same examination period, e.g. B2 & C1.
