TOEFL

Test Of English as a Foreign Language.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language is the test requested by thousands of Universities and Colleges around the world to assess prospective students' work in the use of the English language.
The TOEFL score is required by students whose native language is not English and who are going to do either undergraduate or postgraduate studies at English-speaking Universities.
In addition to Universities in North America, Britain, Australia and Canada, many other Universities or Colleges abroad or in Greece, which use English as the language of instruction, also require the TOEFL.
The Educational Testing Service is the organization that administers the TOEFL and sends the scores of the examinees to the Universities. The examination is now almost exclusively done on a computer. In Greece, the new TOEFL examination system via Internet (iBT, Internet Based Testing) is now implemented.

Listening
The test assesses the examinee's ability to understand English with a North American accent or other English-speaking areas of the world. The test consists of two parts. In the first part, the examinee listens to 4-6 lectures (3-5 minutes and 500-800 words each) and answers 6 questions on each lecture. In the second, he listens to 2-3 conversations of about 3 minutes each, and answers 5 questions in each conversation.
Speaking
This section assesses the examinee's level of use of English language forms in academic contexts. It consists of 3 different parts, each containing 2 tasks. In the first part, the examinee answers questions related to his opinion on general topics. In the second part, the examinee answers questions related to information he has read and heard. In the third part, he answers questions related to a discussion and a short lecture he has heard.
Writing
It consists of two parts. In the first, the examinee reads a short text for 3 minutes (approximately 230-300 words). Then he listens to a short lecture that refers to points in the text (2 minutes) and writes a summary describing the speaker's views on the text. In the second part, the examinee analyzes his/her opinion on a general topic. The examinee's ability to present, organize and substantiate his/her opinions on a topic is assessed.
Up to seven days before your desired exam date (not including the exam day). You can also do this up to three days before the exam date (not including the exam day), but there is a $35 fee.
The total score on the TOEFL CBT ranges from 0 to 120. The examinee's score in each section is also reported separately from 0-30. Universities usually set the minimum TOEFL scores that prospective students need to achieve in order to be included in the selection process. So contact the Universities you are interested in as early as possible to find out what your "basis" is and the deadline for sending your application and scores. Usually, higher scores than the minimums set by universities are required for student selection.
Unofficial results are provided to test takers immediately after completing the Computer Adaptive Test. Official results are sent by the Educational Testing Service to the test taker and to the universities of their choice within 15 days of the test. During the test, the test taker can request that the official results be sent to up to four universities at no additional cost. Therefore, you should have decided in advance on the universities of your choice. The list of universities and their codes can be found in the official ETS Bulletin. Visit the relevant TOEFL Links on our site. After the test, you can request that the results be sent to other universities but with an additional cost of $17 per university.
Only once within any seven-day period.
Scores are valid for 2 years.
The cost of the exam is $225.
Changing the date or time as well as canceling the exam can be done no later than three days before the exam (not including the exam date and the date of the request).
