TIE

The TIE – Test of Interactive English is an English language certification recognized by the Hellenic Council for Education and Training (ASEP) and is a relatively new way of testing and certifying language proficiency up to level C2 (TIE Proficiency).
The TIE Exams are quite innovative and groundbreaking.
This is a graded exam that certifies the language proficiency level of candidates from B2 (Lower) to C2 (Proficiency) depending on their performance. A significant advantage of the TIE is the fact that part of the written and oral exam is based on material prepared by the candidate himself. Both the in-person and remote TIE exams (TIE Online) maintain the same format.

The TIE English Diploma also offers the option of distance learning. It is a graded exam that certifies the language proficiency level of candidates from B2 (Lower) to C2 (Proficiency) depending on their performance.A significant advantage of the TIE is the fact that part of the written and oral exam is based on material prepared by the candidate himself. Both the in-person and remote TIE exams (TIE Online) maintain the same format.
It examines all 4 language skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), with the peculiarity that it consists of 2 parts, a) the oral exam (Spoken TIE Exam), during which the abilities of understanding and producing spoken language (Listening and Speaking) are evaluated, and b) the written exam (Written TIE Exam), which assesses reading and writing comprehension skills.
In our country, TIE degrees are recognized by the ASEP (Supreme Personnel Selection Council) for levels B1/B2, C1/C2 as follows:

The basic concept that differentiates the TIE exams is that the TIE English degree is an achievement test, meaning that all candidates receive the corresponding certification based on their performance. If the candidate actively integrates the process, success is assured.
The TIE Exams have been systematically organized for approximately 8 years, the awarding body is Gatehouse Awards, which in turn is accredited by OFQUAL.
This is a type of holistic exam in which the TIE candidate follows a different preparation compared to other types of exams.
It is the folder that contains the three projects of the TIE preparation, namely the research, the book and the news in both written and oral forms and the point is that the candidate must be prepared for all 3 since he does not know which one he will present. It is indicated here that the material and content of the three topics of the TIE Exams, is chosen by the candidate himself for the best possible performance.
In summary, the structure of the TIE exams is as follows:
At the GLOBAL NETWORK “AXON” we will choose together the program or certification that suits your needs. For levels B2 (“TIE Lower”) to C2 (“TIE Proficiency”) there are 2 exam sections, first the oral and listening sections and then the written section, which includes text comprehension and writing or composition. More specifically, the structure of the TIE exam, whether oral or written, is designed so that candidates are examined in all three project topics.Starting with the spoken exam / speaking and listening, we distinguish 5 stages with a total duration of 25 to 30 minutes, which are graded in this way.
It concerns personal questions and recommendations, with an average duration of 4-9 minutes.
The investigation part begins, which is prepared. Here, the TIE candidates present their projects and take turns answering questions from both the examiner and the other candidate. Tip! It is a good idea for the candidates to have questions. Its duration is 8-9 minutes.
This is followed by the news story, also prepared, where the TIE candidate presents the news story he has chosen, answering questions from both the examiner and his colleague. The duration is 5-6 minutes.
This stage deals with the examination of the book, which is also prepared. Specifically, the TIE candidate must present the book through a summary and then answer questions from both the examiner and the co-examinee. The duration is 5-6 minutes.
The last part is called the Decision Making Test. It is unprepared and the two TIE candidates are presented with pictures to discuss a topic based on them. The examiner asks a question and this tests the student’s ability to reason in English. Duration approximately 4-5 minutes.
Moving on to the second part of the TIE exam, the written exam, we distinguish two separate parts: the first part has to do with student preparation tasks, while the second is called spontaneous writing and TIE candidates are invited to express themselves in writing, either through an email, article, essay, or critique on current topics. Specifically:
In the 1st part, the examinees are invited through written language in the form of an email, article, essay, review and produce a text either in a book or in a news story.
The word limit for levels B1, B2 (TIE Lower) is between 150-200 words, while for C1, C2 (TIE Proficiency) it is over 190 words. Its duration is estimated at 40 minutes. Candidates may have the logbook with them during the written examination.
The second part is followed by the unprepared written test (unknown topic of general interest), where the word limits per level are 150-200 for B2 while beyond 190 for C1-C2 and the total duration is 90 minutes.
