What is the GMAT?
The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is the objective test used by over 1,800 Business Schools around the world to select students for graduate programs in Business and Management. Although each University uses a number of criteria for the final selection of students, Business Schools generally take into account two main indicators: the average grade point average (Grade Point Average-G.P.A.) and the GMAT score.
What does the GMAT test?
GMAT test takers are assessed in three areas: Verbal & Mathematical Ability and Analytical Skills. The exam is given in English.
GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)
The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is an English language exam that tests the candidate's verbal, quantitative, logical and analytical skills. GMAT exams are conducted in 114 countries and at 650 test centers worldwideThis means that almost every day of the year, there is a GMAT exam in some city around the world. If we consider that the exam has been taking place for over 60 years, then the GMAT is probably the most repeated exam in the world. In Greece there are two GMAT testing centers, one in Athens and one in Thessaloniki.
Candidates have the option to take the GMAT exam at a test center or take the GMAT online from their own home. Of course, to take the GMAT online, you must meet certain technological requirements. In the case of the online GMAT, the official score report is available 7 business days after the exam date.
The exam is conducted via computer (CAT- Computer Adaptive Test), lasts approximately 3.5 hours and includes:

Analytical Writing Assessment
It consists of a 30-minute essay—an analysis of an argument—and evaluates your analytical writing skills through two types of tasks:
Analysis of an Issue:The test taker is asked to take a position on a general-interest topic and develop logical, well-structured arguments.
Analysis of an Argument:The test taker is asked to critique the reasoning behind someone else’s argument or conclusion, assessing its logical soundness and identifying any weaknesses.
Λεκτική ενότητα(Verbal Section)
It consists of 36 questions related to reading comprehension, argument evaluation, and sentence correction. The total testing time is 65 minutes. All of the above are assessed through three types of questions:
1. Reading Comprehension
2. Critical Reasoning
3. Sentence Correction
Here as well, the main goal is not to test language proficiency, but the candidate must be familiar with the style of primarily academic texts.
Quantitative Section
This section consists of 31 questions and has a total duration of 62 minutes.
The multiple-choice questions fall into two categories:
Problem Solving:These GMAT questions assess the understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts and the ability to solve problems by applying mathematical reasoning.
Data Sufficiency:This type of question evaluates the test taker’s ability to analyze problems. It measures whether the test taker can identify which pieces of information are relevant to the problem and determine whether the given data are sufficient to solve it.
Reading Comprehension
It consists of 12 questions that assess your ability to analyze the information provided. Your ability to combine data in order to solve complex problems, as well as to interpret graphs, are just some of the skills that will prove useful in the field of business administration.
- The GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) and is administered in English.
Adaptive means that the test questions are not predetermined but are selected by the computer from a large question bank based on the test taker’s answers. The computer chooses questions of varying difficulty levels. The test begins with a question of medium difficulty, and depending on whether the answer is correct or incorrect, the next question becomes more or less difficult accordingly.
The final score is calculated based not only on the number of correct answers but also on the difficulty level of the questions that were answered correctly.
- Because the questions are selected sequentially, the test taker is not allowed to go back and correct answers to previous questions.
It is important to answer the first questions of the test correctly, as well as not to leave any unanswered questions at the end of the test.
- GMAT exams are held in Athens and Thessaloniki, a few days a week.

How is the GMAT scored? What scores should I achieve?
Scores are given separately for each section of the test. The highest score in the Verbal and Quantitative sections is 800 and the lowest is 200.
The Analytical Writing Section is scored from 0 to 6.
Universities typically set the minimum GMAT scores that applicants must achieve in order to be considered for admission.
Therefore, you should contact the universities you are interested in as early as possible to find out what the required minimum score is, as well as the deadline for submitting your application and your scores.
In most cases, the scores needed for actual admission are higher than the minimum scores officially stated by the universities.
How long are my results valid for?
Scores are valid for 5 years.
When are the results sent?
Test takers receive unofficial scores immediately after completing the Computer Adaptive Test.
The official scores are sent by the Educational Testing Service to the test taker and to the universities of their choice within 20 days after the exam.
During the test, the test taker may request that the official scores be sent to up to five universities at no additional cost. Therefore, you should decide in advance which universities you wish to select. The list of universities and their codes can be found in the official GMAT Bulletin.
After the test, you may request that your scores be sent to additional universities, but this comes at an extra cost of $28 (plus VAT) per university.
How many times can I be tested?
You may take the test no more than once every 31 calendar days and no more than five times within one year.
You should be aware that although your performance on a second attempt will most likely be better, there is also a chance it may be worse—especially if no additional preparation has taken place.
Furthermore, if you have taken the test more than once, Pearson VUE will send to the universities you selected the three most recent scores you achieved within the last five years.
Therefore, you should make every effort to achieve the score you want the first time you take the test.
Can I postpone or cancel the exam?
A change of test date or time, as well as cancellation of the exam, can be made no later than seven days before the test date (excluding both the test date and the date of the request).
If you reschedule within the allowed timeframe, you must pay an additional $50 (plus VAT).
If you cancel the exam within the allowed timeframe, you will be refunded $80.
What is the cost of the exam?
The examination cost is $250, plus 19% VAT.
